DFF Not Showing Date after Changing Value Set from 'Date' to 'Standard Date'

For the DFF Additional Personal Details the customer has changed an attached value set for a segment to display dates as ‘YYYY/MM/DD HH:MI:SS’ instead of ‘DD-MON-YYYY’ and now cannot view data previously entered as ‘DD-MON-YYYY’ .
As the customer describes:
Date is not visible in the Additional Personal Details DFF. Initially a custom value set was used with the date format ‘Date’ for the DFF segment. It was storing the value as ‘DD-MON-YYYY’.
Since the ‘Date’ format was obsolete, we changed the value set to another custom value set with the date format as ‘Standard Date’. Now the new value set stores the date as ‘YYYY/MM/DD HH:MI:SS’.
When viewing new values, the date is displaying fine. But the dates already stored in DFF in the format ‘DD-MON-YYYY’ are not being displayed as it is in a different format.
