Support For Email Server 5.2 When Used With Oracle Email Center 11i (Doc ID 470686.1)

Oracle Email Center (EMC) 11i requires Oracle Email Server (OES) 5.2 be installed in order to send and receive emails. However, OES 5.2 has been officially de-supported per Note 2628591.1 and the My Oracle Support Certify tab for OES does not list any certified platform on which OES 5.2 can be installed. The purpose of this note is to clarify how 11i EMC customers will be supported if they encounter issues installing or using OES 5.2.

As stated in the My Oracle Support note mentioned above, Oracle Email Center customers are an exception to this de-support notice, and will continue to receive full support (as described under Technical Support Policies on for OES 5.2 until 2012.

Please note that starting with E-Business Suite Release 12, EMC can use any IMAP complaint mail server and there is no requirement to install OES. Please also note that OES can be installed on a standalone machine that can run a different version of operating system and database than the main E-Business Suite (EBS) instance. Oracle EMC customers upgrading to Release 12 or greater, are highly encouraged to replace OES with an IMAP compliant mail server.

11i EMC customers have been asking the following basic questions:

    1. We are an existing 11i EMC customer and already have an OES 5.2 instance installed. Can we get support/bug fixes if we run into any issues with the OES server? What if we upgrade to a newer version of the operating system (OS)?
    2. We are an E-Business Suite customer and have not yet implemented EMC 11i/OES 5.2. What operating system options are available for OES 5.2 and what happens if we run into issues?
    3. We are an existing 11i EMC customer and would like to upgrade EBS and EMC to Release 12. Are we still able to use OES 5.2 with Release 12?
