How To Redirect JavaHeap and CoreDump Files on AIX (Doc ID 556311.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 08, 2016

Applies to:

Oracle Applications Technology Stack - Version: 11.5.10.2 to 11.5.10.2
IBM AIX on POWER Systems (32-bit)
IBM AIX Based Systems (32-bit)

Goal

On AIX how to prevent javacore and heapdump files from being written to /tmp?

Large files such as:

javacore479288.1203086578.txt
heapdump479288.1203086540.phd

are written to /tmp. If there is not much space available in /tmp it brings production down when /tmp fills up.

The following note(s) have not been of any help:
<<Note.433402.1>> How to redirect to another file system the heap dump and javacore files which now are dumped to /tmp directory
<<Note 431392.1>> What's the cause of javacore and heapdumps being generated on AIX platform?:
