Oracle Transportation Management (OTM) can be configured to interface to many third party products to help determine distance and cost. OTM installations using external distance engines, like PCMiler can also be changed to use these external distance engines as part of the multi-stop planning within OTM. This is configured by changing the MULTISTOP RATE DISTANCE ID parameter from the default value of ESTIMATE to another Rate Distance ID that has been setup by the user to call out to an external distance engine, like PCMiler, to calculate the distance between shipment source and destination locations.
If you change the default setting of ESTIMATE to use an external distance engine, you may see slight differences in solution quality, but should also expect to see a significant increase in overall run times of your bulk plans.
