How and when Will an Increment Happen in the Case of Grade Step Placement (Doc ID 734140.1)

Q1) I attach grade step placement information with an assignment of an employee through People
--> Assignment --> Others --> Grade Step where I checked the Auto-Increment checkbox. Now
how and when will an increment happen for this employee?

Q2) Is it compulsary to run 'Increment Progression Points' report every year to process an increment?

Q3) When using grade step placement (not using grade rate and salary administration), the salary
element is not getting updated automatically. In such case, how can I pick up progression point
values for my payroll run?
