Mobile Applications Do Not Recognize Barcode Data Identifiers and Strip the DFI's (Doc ID 745432.1)

Last updated on JUNE 07, 2017

Applies to:

Oracle Warehouse Management - Version 11.5.10.CU2 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.
This document includes all versions of Oracle EBS 11i and R12

Symptoms

The Data Field Identifier (DFI) for Attributes and Regions have been setup as dictated in the WMS implementation guide;
the Scanners have been configured to pass the Data Stream Indicator (ASCII 28) which is supposed to be the default Data Stream Indicator --
but Mobile Applications and Oracle Forms do not recognize them and capture the entire barcode scan without stripping the Data Stream Indicator or DFI.

The field is displaying the DFI for LPN (J) and ITEM (1P) when scanning the LPNs from the <Note.297992.1> Advanced Barcode Strategies both Figure 1 and 2.

" Figure 1: Barcode without prefixed Data Stream Indicator Barcode without embedded Data Stream Indicator (ASCII-28) JDFITEST "

Navigate: Warehouse > Inquiry > LPN. Scan Barcode in Figure 1. If the scanner is configured
correctly, the DFI for LPN field (“J”) will be stripped from the barcode and LPN details would
be displayed. If the scanner is not configured properly, message “Invalid LPN” will be displayed.

NOTE in the log below that the 'J' was not stripped off.
