Cannot Change Start / End Date for an Extended Warranty Created From Order Management

Information in this document applies to any platform.
When attempting to change the start date for a contract that is created from a sales order, the following error occurs:
Updating billing attributes is not allowed because billing has been already processed.
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. Create a sales order for a serviceable product.
2. Create a line for a service.
3. Ship the product.
4. Run Workflow Background Process and Order Processing programs to create the extended warranty.
5. Open the extended warranty for update and attempt to change the start date. The message appears.
