Unable To Make Dual UOM Tracked Items BOM Enabled (Doc ID 747214.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 21, 2016

Applies to:

Oracle Item Master - Version: 12.0.4 and later   [Release: 12 and later ]
Information in this document applies to any platform.
FORM:INVIDITM.FMB - Define Item Information
FORM:BOMFDBOM.FMB - Define Bill of Material

Symptoms

Receive the following error creating items with Dual Unit of Measure (UOM) and trying to make them Bills of Materials (BOM) enabled.

Error
BOM item type cannot be model or option class and bom allowed must be set to No when
tracking UOM is primary & secondary.

Form Notes
There's a form level validation that checks that if an item is Dual UOM tracked, then it does not allow you to make it BOM enabled which is a prerequisite for using Oracle Configurator.
The restriction was not there in 11i so this might be a possible workaround to update items in 11i before migrating to R12.

Business Impact
BOM Enabled is a prerequisite for using Oracle Configurator.
Also without this option cannot define a structure for the item.
Without this setting, cannot use Configurator with the items.
