At random occasions, typically multiple times per day, the users cannot login. Restarting the iAS appears to resolve the issue immediately, but only for a short term.
The apache error_log has entries similar to the following:
[error] mod_oc4j: Failed to parse OC4J proc ready notification (missing ons info)
Potential changes that might cause this are:
1. Implementing a shared filesystem such that the Apache log files are written to an NFS mount.
2. Upgrading the OS from Red Hat Linux 3 (bad NFS implementation) to Red Hat Linux 4 or higher (NFS in compliance with NFS specification).
3. Defining the environment variable DEFAULT_DMS_DIR in the iAS environment.
4. Setting the AutoConfig parameter "s_lock_pid_dir" to an invalid location.
