How to change Employee of Person Type Contractor to Contingent worker (Doc ID 801213.1)

After converting the Contingents stored as Employees in the system to Contingent Worker in the Business Group and receives the following error:

APP-PER-289656 .The Contingent Worker number already exists. Please enter another.
