The Lot Expiration Control Flag Cannot Be Updated For Item Without Stock

Process-Enabled Inventory Organizations.
In Discrete Inventory, control of the Shelf-Life Item Attributes is reckoned
to be slightly less critical than in Process Manufacturing, so in Discrete you
are allowed to update these columns if there is no Onhand and no Pending
The documentation (on-line help and User Guide) suggests that if
you have zero onhand quantity of an Item then you should be able
to change the Lot Expiration / Shelf Life Control attribute of

In the paragraph on "Lot Expiration (Shelf Life) Control" the only
proviso about updating this screen field is:
quantity of the item exists. If Lot Expiration is controlled at the Master
level, the check for on-hand quantity is against the sum of on hand
quantities in all child organizations.
In reality, it seems that if any Lot Number exists for the Item -
even if that Lot is completely played out and has zero onhand
quantity and no pending transactions - then the change is not allowed.
Error message displayed is 'INV_LOT_QOH_CANNOT_UPDATE':
"You cannot update this field when
1) there is on-hand quantity OR
2) transactions exist OR
3) lots exist."
