Symptoms

Post Mass Additions errors with:

Asset NNNN already exists in XXXX book
Error: function fa_asset_val_pvt.validate_asset_book returned failure
Error: function fa_asset_val_pvt.validate returned failure
Error: function fa_addition_pub.do_addition returned failure
Getting Debug information
fa_massadd_pkg.do_mass_additio: Before category select, catid has the value of NNNN
fa_massadd_pkg.do_mass_additio: Before category select, book has the value of XXXX
fa_massadd_pkg.do_mass_additio: Before category select, dpis has the value of dd-mm-yyyy hh:mm:ss
fa_massadd_pkg.do_mass_additio: After category select has the value of
fa_massadd_pkg.do_mass_additio: After mass_property, amort_start_date has the value of
fa_massadd_pkg.do_mass_additio: After mass_property, dpis has the value of dd-mm-yyyy hh:mm:ss
fa_massadd_pkg.do_mass_additio: Regular addition has the value of
add after validate: allow_neg_nbv_type has the value of
add after validate: px_asset_fin_rec.method has the value of STL
Corporate/Tax Book: c_t_book has the value of XXXX
add before validate: allow_neg_nbv_type has the value of
add before validate: asset_type has the value of CAPITALIZED
add before validate: trx_type has the value of ADDITION
Mass Addition ID: NNNNN ==> ** FAILED **
Error: function fa_massadd_pkg.do_mass_addition returned failure

It seems to pick up old asset numbers, but you are using automatic asset numbering.
