Need To Understand Forecasting Implications On Changing Accounting Calender Setup (Doc ID 1664297.1)

Is it possible to change Accounting Calendar period type from Quarterly to Monthly or Weekly without impacting Sales Forecast setup (AFTER going live)

More details about situation are below :

In scope of BI issue management which was stated as below :

Fusion CRM BI Development team in Bug 18318398 stated this an ER with following comments :
"Currently we do not support quarterly calendars for this feature.
 As a workaround, you can use weekly or monthly calendars.
 DEV is marking this bug as an ER and assigning it to the PM since resolving this issue requires an enhancement to the feature. "

However consequent question appears :

Concern is about changing Accounting Calender as it can impact the important Sales Forecasting setup so this new question is for Fusion Opportunity Support team
Situation in Production instance (Go-Live in December 2013)
The accounting calendar setup drives the forecasting setup. If we have to change from a quarterly to a monthly calendar in order to allow historical reporting
Need to confirm the implications of a Calendar change to forecasting setup (this setup is driven based on the accounting calendar) ?

Furthermore Customer is live with more than 20000 opportrunities
