Goal

You wish to retain customized templates in Oracle Business Intelligence Publisher (BI Publisher) after you apply patches that contain new or modified BI Publisher templates.

This is applicable if you use the BI Publisher customization feature to customize templates.

To upload Customized templates, you must create a Custom report. As you create the Custom report, BIP automatically copies all the predefined templates from predefined reports to the Custom report. After you create the Custom report, the predefined report acts as a mirror image of the custom report and no longer behaves as a predefined report.

For example, in Release 9, Payments seeds BI Publisher templates for the ISO 202022 direct debit and the ISO 202022 credit transfer features. If you use the customization feature, you will not automatically see the new templates reflected in the predefined report, since the predefined report is a mirror image of the Custom report. The case is the same even for patches released with predefined template changes. The template changes are not automatically reflected in the predefined reports.

If you do not create Custom reports, the newly released predefined templates will be automatically available under the predefined reports. It is only when you create the Custom report that the new predefined templates will not be automatically available under the predefined reports.
