CRM-Sale Accounts Field Returns Old Value And Auto Fill Fails

On : version, Opportunities

Searching for Accounts in Opportunities, Account auto fill is not working. The account search wizard appears and old accounts that should be deleted (hidden) can be seen within the wizard

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. Navigate to Opportunities > Create Opportunities
2. In the Account field type only the beginning of the account name and hit <Tab>
3. Search wizard appears and you have to manually search/select the account
