We have a requirement to make the account layout read only for Non Admin users and editable for Admin Users.
So In order to do that we achieved that using two ways:
1. By Making some modification in User Roles: Removed the Duties those allows user to Update the Account
2. We did some scripting for the fields so if user updates a field then while saving he/she will get the error messages saying based on your roles you are not allowed to change it.
Based on these two approaches, we have been facing issue.
there are pros and cons of both approaches:
1. If we follow approach 1 then in that case, making the Account layout read only: the link "View Account Hierarchy" still appears there but on clicking the link, a Blank page appears, User even can't see the Account hierarch, that is not desirable, we would like to see the Account hierarchy but user should not be able to update that.
2. If we follow approach 2, then we don't have any mechanism to control user from making any change in the Account hierarchy link.
