Cannot Use Multipath Devices With Separate /var Partition (Doc ID 1082027.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 14, 2012

Applies to:

Linux OS - Version Oracle Linux 5.3 to Oracle Linux 5.4 [Release OL5U3 to OL5U4]
Linux x86
Linux x86-64
Linux Itanium

Symptoms

You have the /var directory hierarchy placed in its own disk partition, separate from the usual / root placement.

No multipathed devices are usable at boot time, although the multipathed devices are online and work well after booting is complete.

Changes

  1. /var or /var/lib is in a separate partition from / root.
  2. Your missing devices are configured using the device mapper multipath subsystem.
