How To Collect Oprofile(1) Data On An Oracle VM Linux O/S Guest (Doc ID 1202563.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 09, 2010

Applies to:

Oracle VM - Version: 2.2 to 2.2.1 - Release: OVM22 to OVM221
Linux x86-64

Goal

You have a Linux O/S guest on your Oracle VM system and would like to collect performance data.  You do not want to enable any debug scaffolding into your application nor do you want to make any configuration changes.

The non-invasive oprofile(1) feature can collect performance data under these conditions.  This is a built-in feature of the Linux kernel, but is not enabled by default.
