(Doc ID 1323323.1)

Last updated on MAY 24, 2013

Applies to:

Linux OS - Version Oracle Linux 5.0 and later
Generic Linux

Symptoms

There is a VLAN device on a customized bonding interface named "bondeth0", say bondeth0.564. All configuration files are good, but the vlan device cannot be seen after restarting the network service. All other network devices and bonding interface are created at the output of ifconfig.

The following message is seen while restarting network service:

Device bondeth0.564 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization.

But it is possible to create the VLAN device manually by:

# vconfig add bondeth0 564

Changes

Create a VLAN device on a customized bonding interface "bondeth0"
