Configuration of Legacy Character Mode Printers with Oracle Linux 5 and EBS

(Doc ID 1328823.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 12, 2015

Applies to:

Linux OS - Version Oracle Linux 5.0 to Oracle Linux 5.6 with Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel [2.6.32] [Release OL5 to OL5U6]
Generic Linux

In the existing environment you have a legacy printer (many businesses still rely on use of dot matrix printers in many regions of the world) and you are not able to configure it to use with Oracle Linux 5.

When you try to configure the printer on Linux you are unable to find a driver that matches perfectly with your printer.

As an example, you may have an Epson LQ 2180 printer for which Oracle Linux 5 does not bundle a driver for (whereas there is a driver bundled with Oracle Linux 4 for that printer which works just fine).

You may go ahead and contact the printer vendor for a driver on Oracle Linux 5, but that is generally not available for legacy printers.
