Last updated on AUGUST 04, 2018

Applies to:

Linux OS - Version Oracle Linux 5.0 to Oracle Linux 5.7 with Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel [2.6.32] [Release OL5 to OL5U7]
Generic Linux

Symptoms

In some cases, it is not possible to remove a snapshot area for root file system with an error "Can't remove open logical volume 'snapshot-name'" like:

# lvremove /dev/VolGroup00/root-snap
Can't remove open logical volume "root-snap"
# lvremove --force /dev/VolGroup00/root-snap
Can't remove open logical volume "root-snap"

Changes

This may happen after rebooting the Operating System after creating a snapshot area for root file system.
Before rebooting the OS, this never happens even if the snapshot has been created.
