An Oracle Linux system occassionally experiences periods of transient slowness.
The following (or similar) messages, the timings of which correspond to the periods of slowness, are reported to the system log:
The message may occur from initial system installation or may be triggered as a result of such things as:
- Improper BIOS configuration for storage devices e.g. BIOS enables a device that is not physically connected or present
- Changes to storage such as the addition or reorganisation of storage devices e.g. IDE, SATA drives or addition of CD/DVD drive, etc.
- Storage device cable connectivity issues or cable failure
- Storage device failure
