Network bonding failover does not occur when using Oracle VM Server version 3.2.3-525 (or lower) with 10Gbps network interface cards (NICs) configured with mode-1 (active/backup) bonding and jumbo frames/large MTU e.g. MTU=9000.
Messages such as the following are reported to the system log (/var/log/messages, dmesg):
Changes likely to cause the issue to occur include:
- Oracle VM 3.x Servers using bonded 10Gbps NICs with jumbo frames are upgraded to Oracle VM version 3.2.3
- existing Oracle VM 3.2.3 Servers using bonded 10Gbps NICs are re-configured to use jumbo frames
