"Cannot allocate memory ovs-change-mtu:Error setting bond1 to MTU 6000" Received When Setting MTU Size (Doc ID 1611195.1)

Last updated on JANUARY 31, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle VM - Version 3.0.3 to 3.2.6 [Release OVM30 to OVM32]
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - Version N/A and later
Linux x86-64

When the MTU size is being altered for the bonding interface of 10 Gb/s adapters, the following error is received:
['/etc/xen/scripts/linuxbridge/ovs-change-mtu', 'netdev=bond1', 'mtu=6000'] failed(1):stderr:SIOCSIFMTU: Cannot allocate memory ovs-change-mtu:Error setting bond1 to MTU 6000

10 Gb/s Broadcom NetXtreme network adapters (bnx2x drivers) are being used on the server pools.

The server may reboot as a result of network lost.

This problem was once seen on Oracle VM Server version 3.2.6-729 with Broadcom NetXtreme 2 5771x/578xx 10/20-Gigabit Ethernet cards, but earlier versions may be affected as well.
