Oracle VM - Cannot Move Server to Another Server Pool (Doc ID 1635060.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 04, 2018

Applies to:

Oracle VM - Version 3.0.1 and later
Linux x86-64

Symptoms

You have a surplus server that you would like to add to an existing Oracle VM server group. Attempts to add the server fail with errors about the server already being in a cluster.

Errors Found In The Oracle VM Manager Logs

On the Oracle VM Manager host, check the AdminServer logs you may find entries similar to:

OVMAPI_4004E Server Failed Command: dispatch https://?uname?:?pwd?@10.249.245.75:8899/api/3 configure_server_for_cluster lun /dev/mapper/360050768019e
01ed6000000000000987 0004fb0000050000690ae36e341f6b13 , Status: org.apache.xmlrpc.XmlRpcException: exceptions.Exception:Already in cluster: xxxxxxxxxxx

This entry positively identifies the cause. However, this error may be present even without this log entry.

Errors Found On The Oracle VM Server

If you inspect the /var/log/ovs-agent.log on the server that could not be added, you should find entries similar to:

[2014-03-11 14:17:43 56918] ERROR (service:96) catch_error: Already in cluster: xxxxxxxxxxxx

If this entry is present, you do have the issue. If you find no entry, verify the connection between this machine and the Oracle VM Manager host; possibly the incoming directive for joining the pool was not received.
