Purpose

The sosreport(1) utility is an essential tool to supply support analysts detailed configuration and setup information for a server or VM guest.

When started, sosreport(1) runs standard system programs and collection scripts which produce a single compressed tar(1) archive which may then be uploaded to provide support analysts with the required information in a standardized form.

How To Collect an Sosreport on Oracle Linux (Doc ID 1500235.1) shows how to run the tool to collect the data.

In most situations the sosreport(1) runs quickly and smoothly. However, certain situations can slow the collection process or hang the sosreport(1) altogether. The purpose of this document is to highlight and help remedy those caustic situations which prevent the timely progress of the tool.
