Last updated on SEPTEMBER 22, 2017
Applies to:Oracle VM - Version 3.0.1 to 3.3.4 [Release OVM30 to OVM33]
Oracle VM Server 3.x configured for network bonding continually logs message 'received packet on bondN with own address as source address' to the system log (/var/log/messages, dmesg) and remote console e.g.:
As a result of the excessive message generation, system log file size become unduely large, the system log is difficult to read and the system remote console is flooded with messages making it difficult to use.
The '... received packet on bondN with own address as source address' message may have always occured since original Oracle VM deployment.
However, if the messages began only recently, potential preceding changes likely to have occurred include one or more of the following:
- Oracle VM Servers were configured for networking bonding
- the bonding mode of an existing Oracle VM Server bond was changed
- a new network interface was added to an existing Oracle VM Server network bond
