Oracle VM Guest Loses Network After Live Migrate To Oracle VM Server at Release/Patch Level 3.2.9, 3.3.1 or 3.3.2 (Doc ID 1948012.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 01, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle VM - Version 3.2.8 to 3.3.2 [Release OVM32 to OVM33]
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - Version N/A and later
Linux x86-64

When Oracle an VM guest is migrated from Oracle VM 3.2.8 to 3.3.x , the guest loses its network connectivity. All configurations are correct, but all ssh/tcp/ping access attempts to the guest fail.

The network will work fine after stopping and starting the guest on 3.3.x.

In vm server, the xend.log shows guest keeps waiting for vif:

For Oracle Linux guests, only PVHVM guests are affected, PVM guests do not encounter the problem.

Windows guests with PV driver installed do not encounter the problem.

The problem occurs when attempting a "rolling upgrade" of the OVM Servers (OVS), whereby guests are "live migrated" to the upgraded OVS.

If the guest is stopped prior to the upgrade, then started after the upgrade is complete, the problem does not occur.
