Yum Command Fails with "Another app is currently holding the yum lock" after Installing PackageKit (Doc ID 1948106.1)

Symptoms

While issuing a yum command, the process was blocked and it might took a long time to release the current yum lock:

[root@ol6 ~]# yum install sos
Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit, rhnplugin, security
This system is receiving updates from ULN.
Existing lock /var/run/yum.pid: another copy is running as pid 14112.
Another app is currently holding the yum lock; waiting for it to exit...
  The other application is: PackageKit
    Memory :  41 M RSS (360 MB VSZ)
    Started: Tue Nov 25 16:09:40 2014 - 00:08 ago
    State  : Sleeping, pid: 14112

 The error indicates that another instance is running for the yum update , and it's PID is 14112.
