The filesystem Usage Measured by "df" and "du" Commands Could Differ (Doc ID 1984597.1)

In normal situation, the total size of the files under root filesystem, used by "du" command, should be approximately equal or close to the usage of the same filesystem observed by "df" command.

However, in some situation, the amount of filesystem usage seen by "df" command shows much larger than the total file size measured by "du" command.

Here's the example.  "df" command shows that the root filesystem on block device (/dev/mapper/VGExadb-LVDbSys1) occupies 27GB of disk space, while "du" command shows total file sizes are only 7.5GB:
