RAC Cluster is Experiencing Node Evictions after Kernel Upgrade to OL6.6 (Doc ID 2011957.1)

Last updated on SEPTEMBER 22, 2021

Applies to:

Linux OS - Version Oracle Linux 6.6 and later
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - Version N/A and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

After upgrading Oracle Linux 6.5 to Oracle Linux 6.6, network throughput is degraded. Cluster node evictions such as from OCFS2 RAC cluster have been observed.

Changes

The default network-related settings were changed between Oracle Linux 6.5 to Oracle Linux 6.6, so unless the server had customized rules in /etc/sysctl.conf, the new network stack tunings allocated a too-small network packet area. As a side-effect, systems with heavy CPU or network loading could experience excessive packet fragment reassembly errors.
