Last updated on FEBRUARY 07, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle VM - Version 3.3.1 and later
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - Version N/A and later
Linux x86-64

Symptoms

Linux HVM hang when migrating from Oracle VM Server 3.3.1 to 3.3.2 or later.
Linux PVM, Windows VM with PV driver do not suffer from the issue.

More exactly, the migration would fail between xen prior to 4.3.0-55.el6.22.18.x86_64 and xen equal or greater than 4.3.0-55.el6.22.18.x86_64.

Changes

The issue would happen when rolling upgrade the Oracle VM Servers, the following steps outline the procedure:

  1. Upgrade an Oracle VM Server (Server A) from 3.3.1 to 3.3.2 or later
  2. Migrate an running HVM from an unpatched 3.3.1 server (Server B) to the patched server (Server A)
  3. The HVM got hang.

If you are rolling upgrade the xen packages without upgrading the whole system, same issue might also appear.
e.g. apply the VENOM//CVE-2015-3456 patch (xen 4.3.0-55.el6.22.24) on OVM 3.3.1 (xen prior to 4.3.0-55.el6.22.18) in rolling style.
