Oracle Linux: Upgrade of Oracle Linux Running with UEK3 Fails With Dependency Error From Dtrace-modules (Doc ID 2079965.1)

Last updated on JANUARY 20, 2016

Applies to:

Linux OS - Version Oracle Linux 6.5 with Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel [3.8.13] to Oracle Linux 7.1 with Unbreakable Enterprise Kerne [3.8.13] [Release OL6U5 to OL7U1]
Linux x86
Linux x86-64
This applies to all installs using the Oracle Linux 6 Update 5 and higher up to Oracle Linux 7 Update 1 media or any install to which the dtrace-modules have been added.

Yum update fails where specifically UEK3 Kernel Version is running OR in general with a dependency issue on kernel-firmware. This is caused by yum because it attempts to remove the oldest kernel. But the process fails due to the existence of dtrace-modules which actually prevents the removal due to dependency.
