Unable to View the Local Repository of a VM Server in the VM Manager GUI after Recreating the Filesystem

(Doc ID 2082221.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 27, 2015

Applies to:

Oracle VM - Version 3.0.1 and later
Linux x86-64

On Oracle VM 3.X.X, the local filesystem of an Oracle VM Server is partitioned automatically by the VM Server installation to have all the remaining space after the VM Server's installation used in a single partition as a local repository.

After formatting this partition to any kind of filesystem, e.g. ext4, the partition is shown both as a /dev/sdX device and a /dev/mapper entry in the VM server's blkid output, e.g. :

But the local repository is not visible or usable in the VM Manager's Graphical User Interface of the Oracle VM deployment.

mkfs run on the partition that was originally created by the OVM installation to re-create a new filesystem.
