Error: "OVMRU_000008E - Server XX is not owned by the current Oracle VM Manager" Received After deleting/moving /etc/ovs-agent/db folder on VM Server (Doc ID 2095793.1)

Last updated on MAY 02, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle VM - Version 3.0.1 and later
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - Version N/A and later
Linux x86-64

Symptoms

On Oracle VM, after deleting the ovs-agent's database or moving it to a backup location, e.g. running :

# service ovs-agent stop
# mv /etc/ovs-agent/db /etc/ovs-agent/db-backup
# service ovs-agent start

The server first appears as in error but still a member of the pool

Then in error but running (Note the extra green arrow on the VM Server)

Then the server gets moved to the "unassigned Servers" folder

And the VM Manager "loses" ownership - That is, the VM Manager lists it as not being owned by the current VM Manager - Operations attempts on it fails with the following kind of error message :

OVMRU_000008E Server ovsxxxx is not owned by the current Oracle VM Manager. [Mon Jan 11 14:04:29 CET 2016]
