Oracle VM 3.2 : Preserve Simple Names During Manager Database Change Or Restoration

(Doc ID 2127479.1)

Last updated on APRIL 21, 2016

Applies to:

Private Cloud Appliance - Version 1.0.1 and later
Oracle VM - Version 3.2.1 and later
Linux x86-64

The simple names that are manually assigned to configuration objects such as servers are not saved in any OVM Manager database. These names are lost if the database is restored from a backup.  The technique shown below is a method for saving these simple names and then restoring them after an OVM Manager database restoration.

This note applies to Oracle VM 3.2 only.  Other versions such as Oracle VM 3.3 and higher require a different ovm_shell script to complete, described in Note 2127463.1.
