Symptoms

On : Oracle Linux 5.10 with Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel [2.6.39] version, Linux Kernel


The customer while changing a password gets an error message "passwd: Authentication information cannot be recovered", but password changes can be successfully made.
 

The detailed steps are as follows:

[<USER>@<HOST> ~]$ passwd
Changing password for user <USER>.
Changing password for <USER>
(current) UNIX password:
New UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
passwd: Authentication information cannot be recovered
[<USER>@<HOST> ~]$
