Quickest and easiest way to boot a PVM Linux guest into Rescue Mode
(Doc ID 2187003.1)
Last updated on MAY 31, 2020
Applies to:
Oracle VM - Version 3.2.1 and laterOracle Cloud Infrastructure - Version N/A and later
Linux x86-64
Goal
A PVM guest cannot have system boot from virtual CD/DVD ROM (inserted with an Installation Media ISO). In PVM guests, existing CD/DVD disks will be mounted as virtual disks.
So the traditional way to boot a PVM Linux guest into Rescue Mode involves editing vm.cfg file manually, setting up NFS/FTP/HTTP for Installation Media directory/ISO and typing NFS/FTP/HTTP location, etc.
In this document, we can achieve this by clicking on OVMM Web GUI only.
