Oracle Linux 6: Why lsof shows "can't identify protocol" (Doc ID 2206148.1)

Goal

For processes like  ntpd, udev etc, lsof shows the output "can't identify protocol", even when /proc/net/sockstat doesn't show any orphans or any TIME_WAIT and "netstat" doesn't show any CLOSE_WAIT.

Kernel 2.6.32-573.7.1.el6

 

Both test runs were done with ntpd, udev, auditd services running.
