Set CPU Pinning for VMs on Oracle VM 3.4.x (Doc ID 2213691.1)

Last updated on JANUARY 24, 2017

Applies to:

Oracle VM - Version 3.4.1 and later
Linux x86-64

Goal

From Oracle VM manager 3.4.1 on-wards, CPU pinning with ovm_vmcontrol utility on running guest does not work.

When configuring CPU pinning for a running virtual machine with the ovm_vmcontrol command line script, the script returns a success message but output of command 'xm vcpu-list' displays unchanged values.
It means  the changes do not take effect on Oracle VM Server until the VM guest is stopped and started.
Stopping and Starting the guest machine is needed after executing ovm_vmcontrol utility.

This Document explains how we can set cpu pinning for VMs and avoid stop and start of the VM guest.
