Applies to:
Linux OS - Version Oracle Linux 6.0 and laterOracle Cloud Infrastructure - Version N/A and later
Linux x86-64
Symptoms
High memory consumption while running grep against large binary files like /var/log/lastlog on a Oracle Linux 6 server that resulted in the application/database becoming un-responsive. While in Oracle Linux 5 it will give message "grep: line too long" instead of consuming memory. But this is expected behavior of grep in OL6 and OL5 respectively.
