[OVM / PCA] Various Storage Interactions Generate "Unable to issue SG_IO INQ CDB: do_scsi_pt: Resource temporarily unavailable" (Doc ID 2221271.1)

Last updated on JANUARY 29, 2021

Applies to:

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - Version N/A and later
Oracle VM - Version 3.0.1 and later
Private Cloud Appliance - Version 1.0.1 and later
Linux x86-64

On Oracle VM and Oracle Private Cloud Appliance, when deleting a LUN on a storage and re-creating one with a different size, the LUN does not get detected properly by the Oracle VM Manager.

It is also possible that other undeterminted storage actions can trigger this behaviour as well such as refreshing a LUN. However this does not consistently reproduce so the exact root cause in that case is not determined.

When looking at the /var/log/ovs-agent.log on the compute nodes / OVM Servers during the first storage refresh and any subsequent one(s) after these changes, the following kind of errors are being recorded:

[2017-01-06 12:58:53 26917] DEBUG (SCSIPlugin:342) EXIT : getStatus() - Success
[2017-01-06 12:58:53 26917] DEBUG (SCSIPlugin:614) Unable to issue SG_IO INQ CDB: do_scsi_pt: Resource temporarily unavailable

[2017-01-06 12:58:53 26917] ERROR (SCSIPlugin:232) IOError: Exception None obtaining LUN info from /dev/mapper/3600144f0adb8c09200005547f5e80004

Additionally, even though all Storage Initiators are correctly provisioned for all Compute Nodes / Oracle VM Servers, the Storage tab does not list all compute nodes for the newly created LUN, or alternatively lists none at all.
