Symptoms

An Oracle Linux (OL) server is configured to redirect it's system logging to a remote central logging system.
Attempting to login to the server via ssh is slow i.e. a delay of 30 seconds is consistently observed between the user entering their password and login completion.

Changes

The server was recently re-configured to redirect system logging to a remote central logging system.
