Oracle Linux : How To Create IP Alias/Virtual IP Address(VIP) (Doc ID 2315296.1)

Last updated on MAY 18, 2021

Applies to:

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - Version N/A and later
Linux OS - Version Oracle Linux 5.0 to Oracle Linux 7.4 with Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel [4.1.12] [Release OL5 to OL7U4]
Linux x86-64
Linux x86

Some application requires associating more than one IP address to one network interface. This KM will show instructions on how to create a Virtual Interface and save it into Linux OS Network Script.

We will modify the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-interface manually, and create a new Virtual Interface for the RAC VIP then save it, so that the system will automatically manage it.
