Symptoms

An Oracle Linux (OL) system running on a HPE ProLiant Server is configured for network bonding i.e. bond master bond2 enslaves interfaces eth2 and eth3.

Attempts to bring up bonded interface bond2 fail as follows:

# ifup bond2 up
RTNETLINK answers: File exists
RTNETLINK answers: File exists
