Upgrading to UEK4 Causes Process (e.g. ps, lsof) to Hang (Doc ID 2326080.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 05, 2019

Applies to:

Linux OS - Version Oracle Linux 7.2 with Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel [4.1.12] and later
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - Version N/A and later
Linux x86-64

A specific process hangs when run, and process admin commands (e.g. ps) also hang after this has occurred.

After this hang, system load average climbs steadily and the hung process cannot be killed.

This issue will produce stack traces in your /var/log/messages log similar to the following:

kernel: INFO: task java:4045 blocked for more than 120 seconds.
kernel: Not tainted 4.1.12-103.3.8.el7uek.x86_64 #2

It must specifically include the vma system calls and "call_rwsem_down_write_failed"

This issue occurs after upgrading to UEK4 kernel-uek-4.1.12-103.2.8 or later.
