Oracle Linux: The Network Failed When the Server Booted Up (Doc ID 2328891.1)

Symptoms

For a server running on Oracle Linux 7,the network failed to come up with the host IP address and the necessary route not being set.

The following messages were logged to /var/log/messages:

Oct 2 09:29:08 localhost dhclient[100064]: No DHCPOFFERS received.
Oct 2 09:29:08 localhost dhclient[100064]: No working leases in persistent database - sleeping.
Oct 2 09:29:08 localhost systemd: Cannot add dependency job for unit microcode.service, ignoring: Unit is not loaded properly: Invalid argument.
Oct 2 09:29:08 localhost systemd: Starting LSB: Bring up/down networking...

Oct 2 09:29:08 localhost systemd: Unit network.service entered failed state.
Oct 2 09:29:08 localhost systemd: network.service failed.
Oct 2 09:29:08 localhost network: Restarting network (via systemctl): Job for network.service failed because start of the service was attempted too often. See "systemctl status network.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details.

Running dhclient in verbose mode also returned the following:

Restarting network (via systemctl): Job for network.service failed because start of the service was attempted too often. See "systemctl status network.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details.
To force a start use "systemctl reset-failed network.service" followed by "systemctl start network.service" again.
