Oracle Linux: Users are Unable to Login to GUI Console (Doc ID 2404553.1)

Root login from GUI console is not happening, after entering username [root] and password it comes back to same screen.

In /var/log/secure following messages are logged from service gdm-password, user may also fail to switch accounts in gui-console.

Apr 10 20:30:43 <host> gdm-password]: pam_unix(gdm-password:session)
Apr 10 20:30:58 <host> gdm-password]: pam_unix(gdm-password:session)

Customer removed gdm packages.

gdm-plugin-fingerprint, gdm-user-switch-applet, gdm, gdm-libs
