Last updated on SEPTEMBER 26, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - Version N/A and later
Oracle VM - Version 3.4.1 and later
Linux x86-64

Goal

The error message 'Unable to mount file system "/dev/mapper/<uuid>": mount: you must specify the filesystem type\n' is typical seen when the Device Mapper device /dev/mapper/<uuid> is built as shared/local OCFS2 Repository, and the operation is to access this Repository, e.g. start up a VM guest with Virtual Disks on this Repository, or present an Oracle VM Server to this Repository.

For instance, an error while presenting this Repository to an Oracle VM Server:
OVMAPI_B000E Storage plugin command [storage_plugin_mount] failed for storage server [0004fa00000900004d5f3e593fa1fb14] failed with [com.oracle.ovm.mgr.api.exception.FailedOperationException: OVMAPI_4010E Attempt to send command: storage_plugin_mount to server: ovs1 failed.
