Oracle Linux: Network Not Working After Performing a Minor Update to Oracle Linux 7.5

Symptoms
After patching server to Oracle Linux 7.5 the network will not come up.
When trying to restart the network service it fails with the following errors:
Failed to start LSB: Bring up/down networking
The status of the service shows "failed":
# systemctl restart network.service
network.service - LSB: Bring up/down networking
Loaded: loaded (/etc/rc.d/init.d/network)
Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Date & Time GMT; ##s ago
Process: PID ExecStart=/etc/rc.d/init.d/network start (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)
The messages logs show the following:
hostname systemd: Starting LSB: Bring up/down networking...
hostname systemd: network.service: control process exited, code=exited status=6
hostname systemd: Failed to start LSB: Bring up/down networking.
hostname systemd: Unit network.service entered failed state.
hostname systemd: network.service failed.
Changes
Server was updated from Oracle Linux 7.3 to Oracle Linux 7.5. Issue can happen when updating from Oracle Linux 7.1, 7.2, 7.3 or 7.4.
